Neil was born in Cape Town but spent most of his life in Natal.

His family moved to Durban where he completed his schooling at Durban High School.
Despite much adversity, he enjoyed success on the cricket field having played provincial cricket for both Natal and Transvaal
Neil coached for many years both in Natal and the Western Cape.
He has been married to Lynne for 30 years and they have two daughters Sharnè (Shar-nay) and Sasha.
Lynne is a teacher at Somerset House a private prep school in Somerset West where they have resided since 1996.
Neil was in the Sport Management industry from 1992 to 2015.
